1. Selecting the Right Affiliate Network

With so many affiliate networks on the web today, it is important for serious affiliates to identify the key features that are important to them in order to select the right networks to work with. In the future, we’ll be publishing a comprehensive affiliate network review guide, but I thought it would be helpful in the meantime to identify some of the primary differences between the popular affiliate networks.

    Affiliate Support

Selecting a network that offers the correct level of support for a specific affiliate type is vital. Some affiliates prefer not to be contacted with ideas about how to improve their campaign performance; they already have a strong grasp on their marketing techniques and the least amount of distractions from the network and affiliate managers, the happier they are. On the opposite end of the spectrum are the beginner affiliates who need a little more hand holding and coaching. These are the affiliates who should select a network who focuses on affiliate relationships – a network with a properly trained staff to offer advice in SEO, PPC advertising, email marketing, and other marketing methods.

    Campaign Types

Quality advertisers can be found on many different affiliate networks, which makes it very important to find a network that has a good selection of advertisers or campaigns in an affiliate’s industry niche. If the niche is retail products, affiliates should choose a network that has an abundance of those choices from the top retailers. For a CPA affiliate marketer in the financial industry, a typical “affiliate network” might not be the best option. Instead – the CPA affiliate should look into some exclusive CPA networks for laser targeted CPA offers that match their niche.

    Payouts

Finally, the affiliate payout options and frequency have been a hot button in the industry for years. Some affiliate networks still think it is okay to pay affiliates monthly, and by paper check only. Progressive networks see this as an opportunity to differentiate themselves from the competition by allowing flexible payment methods like PayPal, direct deposit, Moneybookers, debit cards, and several other payment processing options. These networks are also adopting a bi-weekly or weekly pay schedule; something that affiliates have needed for a long time. Affiliates who need frequent payouts (for reinvesting back in PPC, or other advertising), a payout frequency of two weeks or less should be mandatory.

These are just a few things that prospective affiliates should look for when selecting an affiliate network. Be sure to check out our comprehensive affiliate network review guide in the near future, and visit AffiliateSeeking for more info.
