Free iPhone Ringtones with your iTunes Music in 5 Easy Steps
Aug 12, 2008 Tech News, iPhone
As most of you have probably figured out when you tried to “create ringtone” from a song that you have in your iTunes library, this only works on songs that you have downloaded through iTunes, and it costs money.
But - there is an easier way to make your own ringtone (from any music that is in your iTunes library), and it doesn’t cost anything!
1. While viewing your music library, right click on the song that you want to make a ringtone from, and click on “Get info”.
2. Click on “Options” and in the two start and stop checkbox spots, indicate which portion of the song that you want the ringtone to be (Note: The ringtone can only be 40 seconds, so make sure that your portion of the song is 40 seconds or less), then click “ok”.
3. Right Click on the same song again, and select “Convert to ACC” (if it shows “MP3″, you will need to change your setting in iTunes). This creates a new song directly under the original song.
4. Right click on the newly created song, and select either “Show in Windows explorer” or “Show in Finder” depending on your OS. Now, rename the file to a “.m4r” extension (if your extensions are not showing, change your folder settings to show extensions). KEEP THIS WINDOW OPEN.
5. In iTunes, delete the newly created 40 second version of the song, and then click on the ringtone library. Drag and drop the new ringtone into the ringtone library. Then - sync up your ringtones and you are ready to go!
iPhone 3G Review - Why I love the app store
Aug 11, 2008 Tech News, WordPress, iPhone
On Thursday afternoon, I got a phone call from my local ATT store telling me that my iPhone 3G had arrived. I had to utilize the order fulfillment process that was initiated because of the huge demand that the iPhone has carried since it was released about a month ago, so I was extremely excited to pickup my first iPhone!
After unpacking the iPhone, it was everything that I expected. A very slick box; great presentation, and all of the necessary accessories included (ear buds, charger cable, cleaning cloth).
The phone performs great. I quickly fell in love the the touch screen - something that some other people said was a hassle to use or was not as responsive as it could have been. Mastering the mechanics of it took only a short while.
Thinking that I had become a master of it, I did what most people did shortly after getting their new iPhone. I poped on over to the app store to see what cool apps I could download. Naturally - Wordpress for iPhone was the very first one, followed by Pandora, Facebook, and Google Mobile.
I have been playing around with the app store, and I really love everything about it. What would make it an even more effective tool for someone like me, would be the ability to have a custom app created that I could launch on only my iPhone, for specific tasks that I would like my iPhone to perform. Have some way to personalize the app store with private apps, and making the availability of the developers toolkit for making apps would really make the app store experience a true platform. Imagine having the ability to make a custom app for your phone that could open your garage door, pay for gas at the pump as a debit/credit card, or even record a video! (Apple didn’t include a video recording feature with the iPhone)
So far, my favorite as has got to be the Wordpress for iPhone app. When I think about it, the ability to remotely publish media (content and images) is of huge importance in the blogging community; something that is very new and exciting. Infact, these screen shot images taken from my iPhone were added “on the go”, and the post right now is being published with the iPhone. Sure - typing all of this out takes a little longer on iPhone than it would on a computer, but the fact that I can be anywhere in the world doing this is really cool.
Update: I just read an article on Mashable about this very topic. It looks like they agree that the app store will be the reason for the lasting success of the iPhone.
The Best iPhone Apps for the new 3G
Jul 29, 2008 iPhone
Over the past couple of weeks, there have been several blog postings about the Apple

iPhone 3G
App store and the various apps that are available for the 2.0 updated phone. As I wait for mine to arrive from the warehouse, I thought I would check to see with current users about the apps that they are loving, and the apps that are causing headaches. Please share your stories.
iPhone on the way!

Today I finally broke down and did it; I went to my local ATT store and ordered a new iPhone 3G. They didn’t have any in stock, so the 8G black version that I ordered should take 7-10 business days to get to me. Looks like I’ll have to trade in my trusty Windows Media Player for iTunes now. I’ll be posting some screenshot of the apps that I install once I get the iPhone, and you can be sure that the WordPress app will be the first one that I install.
